Winter / spring 2025 kids session
Capoeira Vida’s Winter / Spring 2025 Kids Session takes place at Solar Yoga Ashram every Wednesday at 4pm starting January 15th. Our 19-week session is for kids between the ages of 8 and 13. New students will learn basic capoeira skills and continuing students will build upon their knowledge from previous sessions through practicing their capoeira moves, singing and playing musical instruments.

Why choose capoeira classes for your kids?
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that fuses dance, music, self-defense and acrobatics. It is energetic and joyful and exposes children to a new language, music, movement and culture. By its nature Capoeira is very playful. The very verb used in Portuguese to do Capoeira is jogar, or to play!
The rhythm of Capoeira is determined by the instruments: berimbau (a one-stringed bow instrument), pandeiro (tambourine) and atabaque (drum). Students learn to play the instruments and sing as well to listen to the rhythms to guide their movements. Because many movements in Capoeira are from the animal kingdom, children love to learn the imitative gestures.
Capoeira Vida kids classes focus on Capoeira movements that encourage physical development, motor coordination and interaction with peers and adults. As many of these movements have Portuguese names it is also an excellent tool for teaching a new language. Capoeira Vida creates a space where kids can be playful, animated, graceful and expressive in a safe, fun, and disciplined environment.
UNIFORMS & ATTIRE
Uniforms are an important part of Capoeira Vida kids and are required for all participants. They are available for purchase at class for $80 and consist of abada/pants, cord, and shirt. All classes are taken without shoes or socks. Long hair should be tied back, and jewelry must be taken off.
TRIAL & DROP-IN CLASSES
For new students, if you are unsure whether capoeira is right for your family, we invite your child to attend one trial class on the first day of the session, provided there is space in the class. There is a $40 drop-in fee for the trial class. Only one trial class is permitted. The drop-in fee will not be applied to the price of the series if the student registers.
REFUND POLICY
Class fees are refundable within the first 3 weeks of the series, less a $40 processing fee and the prorated cost of classes taken. We cannot provide a refund if your child has continued to attend the session after the first three weeks. Please contact us directly to process a withdrawal and refund.
